Launch of the France-Canada Innovation Cooperation Program

A strong political commitment

During his visit to Canada in June 2018, the President of France, accompanied by the Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, reaffirmed the commitment to strengthening scientific and technological cooperation between the two countries. One year later, this ambition materialized with the launch of the In2novation program.

Accelerating the transition from research to the market

The goal of this platform is clear: to bring academia and industry closer together to transform scientific breakthroughs into tangible innovations. It supports collaborations between universities and businesses in France and Canada, focusing on sectors with high economic potential.

Future sectors at the heart of priorities

Artificial intelligence, digital technology, biosciences, environment, aerospace, ocean sciences, and agrotechnologies—these are all strategic fields that will shape the future of collaborations and of both nations and the global economy.

These priority areas were first identified in the 2016-2018 Joint Declaration on Innovation Cooperation, signed on October 12, 2016. This declaration led to the creation of a bilateral working group aimed at structuring collaboration in these key sectors.

A Strong Political Message

Beyond the economic and scientific impact, this strengthened cooperation reflects a shared political vision between France and Canada. In response to geopolitical uncertainties and the accelerating global technological race, Paris and Ottawa are reaffirming their commitment to a development model rooted in multilateralism, responsible innovation, and open research.
