Next-coast: A Franco-Canadian collaboration for the monitoring of coastal ecosystems

The In2novation program, initiated by the French Embassy in Canada, announced the winners of its OceanTech 2024 call for projects, aimed at supporting sustainable technological solutions for the exploration and preservation of ocean environments. Among them, Next-coast, worn by Isabel Jalón-Rojas (CNRS) and Ethan Edson (Ocean Diagnostics), is distinguished by its ambition to revolutionize the collection and analysis of environmental parameters in coastal and estuarine environments.

Thanks to a grant of 25,000 CAD, this project will improve Ascension, a portable instrument for in-situ sampling and analysis, in order to increase the accuracy of monitoring microplastics, environmental DNA and sediments. An innovation that could transform marine ecology research and guide conservation policies.
